Alex CannWWU Falls to #16 Mo. Baptist in Championship Game

(HANNIBAL, Mo., May 11)--The William Woods University baseball team advanced to the American Midwest Conference championship game with a 5-2 victory over Park University on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls lost 5-6 to #16 Missouri Baptist University in the AMC championship game on Tuesday evening.

 

Junior Adam Wojciechowski (St. Louis, Mo.) was 3-for-3 in the WWU win over Park University. Senior Brian Bishop (Russellville, Mo.) added two hits for the Owls in the win.

 

WWU scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to take a 5-2 lead. Senior Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) began the inning with a triple. Junior L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) delivered an RBI single to drive in the game-winning run. Junior Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) added two RBI's in the inning to give the Owls a three-run cushion.

 

Junior Alex Cann (San Diego, Calif.) earned the win in relief for WWU. Cann (2-4) worked three innings, allowed one hit, no runs, walked two and struck out six.

 

Park (28-17) scored two runs on nine hits. WWU scored five runs on 12 hits and committed one error in the win.

 

William Woods scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning in the championship game to take a 5-4 lead over 16th ranked Missouri Baptist University. MBU answered with a run in the 7th, and another in the 8th to take the lead, and the win.

 

Junior Ezra Dickerson (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's in the loss. Oliver went 2-for-5 with two RBI's for the Owls.

 

Junior Logan Lawson (Jackson, Mo.) took the loss for William Woods. Lawson (9-2) worked eight innings, allowed 12 hits, six runs, walked four and struck out four.

 

MBU (42-11) scored six runs on 12 hits and committed two errors. WWU (33-22) scored five runs on eight hits.

 

Under head coach Darren Munns, the Owls have been to the AMC championship game three times in the past five years.
