Shields Named as the New Director of Residence Life

Scott P. Shields, originally from Mexico, Mo., is the new director of residence life at William Woods University.

As part of the Community Life division, Shields is now responsible for the campus living environment of 12 residence halls, including supervision and training, crisis management and follow-up, programming and community building.

Shields earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a Minor in Communications Truman State University in Kirksville. He completed his master of arts degree in student affairs in higher education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pa.

His professional experience includes Hall Director at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), Assistant Director of Residence Life/Residence Hall Director at Mt. St. Mary’s College and Graduate Assistant for Housing Services at Carnegie Mellon University.

Other practicum and advising experience includes serving as Emerging Leader Program facilitator at University of Pittsburgh, advisor of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at SIUE and co-advisor for the Resident Housing Association at SIUE.

Shields has been affiliated with St. Louis Area College Housing Association’s Professional Development Committee, American College Personnel Association, Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers and Maryland College Personnel Association. He won the Outstanding Greek Advisor Special Recognition Award in April 2004 from SIUE.
