| Making efforts to strengthen their own leadership skills to better share their faith with others, 200 Missouri high school students will meet at William Woods University July 19-22 for Christian Regional Youth (CRY) convention.
The convention is solely organized by high school students of the Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ). Adults attending the convention are merely there to supervise the teens’ work.
CRY is “all planned by leadership of high school cabinets,” Mandy Wiedeman, coordinator of CRY, stated. “It is leadership training in which we encourage young people not only to work on themselves, but [also] what others might need to enrich their faith.”
The enrichment of individual faith, thereby strengthening the faith of peers is the purpose of CRY.
“It’s for high schoolers to build a community, a place where young people have a place to share their faith,” said Wiedeman.
The four-day retreat will be filled with activities including family groups, keynote speakers that are speaking throughout the event and workshops relating to the theme.
This year’s theme is “Life at a Glance – Eyes Wide Shut.” Wiedeman explains that it is about “being open to God’s plan in your life. Not always knowing what the path will be, but being open to God’s plan for you.”
Services and events for CRY will be held in Dulany Auditorium. The cost for one student is $135, which includes meals, room and board on the WWU campus.
